New addition Alexis Sanchez helped Manchester United easily handle League Two side Yeovil Town 4-0 tonight, powering them through to the FA Cup fifth round. Sanchez was handed a first team selection, played 72 minutes and assisted on goals from Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera.
United also got goals from Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard in a match that saw the Red Devils comfortably pull away in the second half versus a side from the fourth tier of English football.
Team Captain Michael Carrick made just his second appearance of the season, while Angel Gomes made his second ever appearance with the senior team.
Of course, the story of the day was Alexis Sanchez, and United Manager Jose Mourinho had nothing but praise for his newly acquired attacking weapon.
“I am very happy. It was no surprise for anyone,” he said of the Chilean’s debut in his postgame news conference.
“He is a fantastic player and has shown that already in three days training with us; he’s an amazing addition for us.”
Mourinho also addressed a question that many football observers have had about the Alexis Sanchez – Henrikh Mkhitaryan swap deal. Where will he fit, and who does he replace?
“Everybody is happy that he comes because good players they want good players and Alexis is a fantastic player for us,” Mourinho said in a postgame interview.
“The question is always, which one is going to be out? Where is he going to play, but it’s not about that for us. For us it’s about having a fantastic group of attacking players and he’s another one with a little bit more maturity.”
“His choice for the counter-attack for the second goal is one that Marcus is still too nervous to make so he will bring us this maturity and class. We are pleased with him and I am happy with his performance.”
