It continues to be a very exciting summer at Manchester United, with a whole lot going on. The team has arrived in Los Angeles and commenced the USA portion of their preseason training activities.

There is certainly no shortage of topics to discuss today, so let’s take a spin through the latest news and notes items making the rounds on the internet on this Thursday.

Luke Shaw told a news conference at UCLA in Westwood, California on Wednesday that he aims out to beat out Ashley Young and become Jose Mourinho’s first choice at the left back position in the starting XI.

“The next five games are all about fitness, but I want to try and prove to the manager that I can be in his team, not just in these games,” Shaw said.

“When everyone comes back and everyone is fit and ready, I still want to be that first name on the team sheet. It’s time for me to show him over the next four weeks what I can do and why I deserve to be in this team.”

The 23-year-old Englishman also said it’s “annoying” that he has to “prove” himself at United.

“It’s annoying for me to say I need to prove myself. But I know what I can do and that’s why I’m still here. I’m sure that’s what the manager thinks,” Shaw added.

“I don’t think I would still be involved right now if the manager didn’t believe in me. I’ve had a good chat with him and I look forward to the new season and getting back to my best.”

–If you haven’t seen the new home shirt for this season, a few pictures are below. The new kit inspired by the railway men who formed the club, and the shorts will be black instead of white this season.

United was founded as Newton Heath LYR Football Club in 1878, with the name change to Manchester United coming in 1902.

The Adidas promo video spot alludes to Newton Heath Lancashire Railway Football Club, and the black stripes at the bottom of shirt evoke railroad tracks.

-Jose Mourinho admits that he’s worried about how his team will start the Premier League season due to the fact that so many of his players are not with the rest of the squad for preseason training. Many of United’s key players are now on holiday after having played with their national sides deep into the World Cup tournament.

“I’m worried because I’m not training and then I go to the Premier League without lots of players, but it is what it is and we have to try and make the best out of it with the players we have here,” he said at a Wednesday news conference on the campus of the University of California-Los Angeles.

“I’m not worried about playing Liverpool here or Real Madrid or Milan, I’m not worried if we lose badly. The preseason is very bad, the positive thing of the preseason is only for the young boys that have fantastic opportunity to train with us.”
