Manchester City are having a season for the ages this year, breaking multiple records for points accumulated all along the way. In 2017-18, the Sky Blues have consistently put in dominant performances that make their campaign historical in the truest sense of the word.
City are on track to set the highest points tally in Premier League history, score the most goals in a single season and have the biggest winning margin at the top of the table in history.
Up until recently, City were one of a handful of current Premier League teams that still had Latin mottos emblazoned on their club crest. A couple of years ago they changed the crest, but this current season has certainly lived up to Manchester City’s motto of “Superbia in proelia.” As any Latin scholar will tell you, the phrase translates to “pride in battle.”
The Citizens can currently have a ton of pride this season for how they have battled, on all fronts, this season.
Although City crashed out of the FA Cup, they have one trophy already (League Cup) with chances for a treble this season still very favorable. Manchester City are currently on top of rivals Manchester United by 16 points, and the title race has essentially been over since December.
Manchester City is currently 25 points ahead of the current reigning league champions, Chelsea, the manager of whom deemed the champions-in-waiting to be looking “unstoppable.”
“Manchester City was always a fantastic team, but after one season the manager tried to improve the quality of the starting XI, to improve the quality in his squad, and this is the result,” Chelsea manager Antonio Conte said.
