We could be in for a somewhat eventful last 10 days of the summer transfer window at Manchester United. We could very well be in for a partial makeover of the back line, with Matteo Darmian and Marcos Rojo heading out, and Leicester City’s Harry Maguire coming in.

This window has already seen a couple changes in the defender position group with Diogo Dalot coming in (although he won’t fit to play until September) and Daley Blind heading out. Mourinho has said that he wants two more players this summer, but knows that he might have to settle for one.

That one player is likely to be a central defender as it is the position most need of an upgrade.

Multiple outlets report that Maguire, a breakout star for England during their surprising World Cup run, is the top target for United. However, their pursuit has hit a couple of snags. Leicester do not want to let him go, especially after losing Riyad Mahrez to Manchester City.

United may need to make Maguire one of the world’s most expensive defenders (potentially in the £75 million range) if they are to obtain him, and that means they will likely need to sell someone in order to raise funds. That could be Darmian and/or Rojo as both face very uncertain futures at the club. Rojo is nursing an injury that kept him from joining up with the rest of the team.

The club have also removed him from all branding.

As for Darmian, he has made it publicly known that he wants out of United.
